A compelling story, or DocuDrama, about a CIA spy sent to China at the end of World War II to find out what the Communists and Soviets were up to. As the Communists overrun China, his spy ring is captured and executed. He then must avoid capture (and almost certain torture and execution) and escape (with a price on his head) from the jaws of a rapid and crushing Communist take-over.

Close to 50 students, faculty, and cast attended the Red Flag Rising (RFR) Production Awards held at the Nicholson School of Communications and Media on Saturday, January 28. According to Director Patrick Bienvenu, the event was designed to "feel a little" like a formal award ceremony. Some attendees dressed up in formal attire while others had a more "student look." As it now enters the post-production phase, the film still has "a ways to go" according to Bienvenu. It's expected premier is late summer.
The film is the thesis film of Patrick Bienvenu, being produced as a requirement of the UCF Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) Program with support from Executive Producer Gloria Callais.
Allison Dirschka (Executive Assistant Director) and Victoria Jurecka (Co-Executive Assistant Director) supported production of the event. Both received "Super Achivement" awards. Neer (Hani Chen) received the highest RFR Pinnacle Award for her superb performance as "Neer." Dr. Lisa Mills was also recognized with the highest pinnacle award for her guidance and direction throughout the project. Director Patrick Bienvenu, who hosted the event, said all of the cast had exceptional performances.
Examples can be seen on this website.
We opened the event with songs sung by our Music Director and supporting actress Madeline Anderson.
Lead Actress Neer (Hani) reenacted part of a scene by graciously singing a famous folk song as she slowly walked to the front of room - as the actual scene was being displayed on the big screen. So impressive!
Captain Yun (John Feng) & Bo Wan (Guohui Zhou) were even nice to each other as they received their awards!
Charles Yang was recognized for his supporting role shooting Neer (Hani Chen).
Our protagonist (Shawn Reimer) could not be there in person; however, many scenes were played displaying his outstanding acting as Leonard. Michael Margio, our DP was represented by Kailey Newkirk of Summit Church. His signature cinematography has helped to move this production to a high-level, commensurate with high budget, Hollywood style, productions.
Most of the clips played can be viewed in their entirety at redflagrising.com or at this link.
